A Liturgy for Sourdough Baking

As your hardworking hands become caked in dough, and the bottom of your shirt collects the dusting of flour that lines your countertops, I pray you find satisfaction in the toil of creating something out of lowly ingredients.

May this glimpse into the holy habitation of God, creating us from dust for greater purposes, reflect into your baking a similar holy excitement.

Whether the loaves we make turn out beautiful, or are misshapen and hard, may we press on with gratitude and acceptance that every loaf is different, just as every day holds new mercies and challenges for us all.

May we hold the beautiful and delicious sourdough creations ahead with open hands to share generously, and may we equally hold the mistakes with grace and perseverance that there will always be tomorrow.

May your baking journey, and your life, be full of grace, generosity, gratitude, and holy excitement.

Like our bread, may we rise well, and nourish those around us.

Blessed be God who provides us with everything for our enjoyment and nourishment.
